Seeking and obtaining Professional advice
The information and material provided within this website does not replace or supplant the need for professional advice, particularly given the complex nature of retirement planning. As we mention elsewhere, the website is intended to assist you in managing the provision of this advice, and you should remain responsible for the planning outcomes – not your advisor.
When it comes to individuals and families seeking professional advice, it is often driven by the recommendation of friends or acquaintances, or by geography. Neither is necessarily wrong, but the key driver should be to find an adviser - whether a lawyer, tax advisor or financial planner - whose skills and experience are a match for your requirements. Remember, for example, that not all financial planners have experience with entry to aged care homes, just as not all tax advisors will be familiar with the treatment of foreign pensions and not all lawyers will provide advice in relation to retirement village contracts.
Finding a good match for your requirements, and everyone is different to some degree, may take some time and research. A good starting point will normally be:
|The Financial Planning Association of Australia|
|Tax Practitioners Board|
SimplyRetirement can provide access to professional advice, with partner organisations with whom we have worked for a number of years, but this advice is more focussed on situations where there are significant assets involved, or substantial complexity - including situations where assets are held overseas - and fees will apply in respect of any advice provided.
If you believe your situation warrants, or might benefit from, specialist advice please click the Inquiry button below and fill in the requested information. You will receive a prompt response and a fee quotation in advance of any advice or services being provided. Please note that advisors will not necessarily be available in your own location and advice may be provided remotely, by telephone/teleconferencing and email.
